my IIM K interview

venue: IIM B
14th March 2 pm
Group Discussion: My GD was again pathetic so no need to discuss that

But my interview was amazing that's how it went

P1 Tell us about yourself
Ans I am from Patna. I did my graduation from B.tech in electrical engineering from
IIT Madras. I am presently working in a startup based in IIT Kanpur. My hobbies
are reading novels and playing chess.
P1 What do you do in your company ?
Ans (Actually the question must had been different. Otherwise instead of telling them
what I told I must have gone to work I do in my company)
(In my I and C interviews interviewers did not seemed impressed with description
of my job) So i told them I am presently on a one month leave.

P1 Why did you chose interview center as Bangalore
ans told

P1 (From information given in form) So you play chess you must know about Robert James Fisher? ( I know so much about this guy that i could probably write 20-30 pages on him)
Ans Yes Sir, he was widely considered as greatest chess player. He became world champion in 1972 by winning world championship match. He later abdicated his world title when his demand for changes in world cycle was not accepted by FIDE.

P1 What was his nationality?
Ans United States
0
P1 Whom did he played his last match against?
Ans Boris Spassky

P1 What was his nationality?
Ans Ussr

P1 Where was the match held?
Ans Rekjavik ( still could not believe i got this question)

P1 Why was Rekjavik chosen as venue?
Ans Said I am not sure, said Fisher did not wanted to play this match. Only at the last moment did he agree to play this match.

P1 Still asked the same question?
Ans Said organizing body chose it.

P1 Asked if I am sure I am right or wrong?
Ans Said I am not sure, whatever i tell its from my memory, memory could be right or wrong

P1 Whom did he abdicate his title to?
ans Anatoli Kaprov

P1 Why did he abdicate his title?
Ans Previously World Championship used to be decided by 12 game world championship match. He demanded World Championship should be decided by a match where first player
to win 10 games keep the title. He also demanded that world champion should keep the title. He also demanded that world champion could keep the title in case of 9-9 tie. So the Challenger has to win by atleast 10-8 to keep the title. His first demand was accpeted by organizing body. But his second demand was not accepted. So he sent a letter to fide abdicating his title.

P1 What he did after that ?
Ans He played a match with Boris Spassky in 1992. After he was declared criminal by united state. He then lived life of a fugitive.

(He did not knew of these things . Ever heard of free run in IIM interview.

P1 He played him in 1992? (He was confused)
Ans They had played for title in 1972. In 1992 they played for prize money.

P1 How do you become criminal for playing chess?
Ans Because they played their last match in Yugoslavia. At that time president of Yugoslavia Tito, I am not sure was organizing a mass ethnic cleansing of minorities.
So United Stated had forbidden its nationals from going there.

P1 Where did he lived in later years of his life?
Ans Iceland. He died in Iceland last year. He may have also lived in Japan. Because his wife is Japanese.

P1 Why in Iceland?
Ans Because he played his famous match there.

P1 He said there was another reason
And After some thoughts I said because Iceland granted him political asylum.

Then we moved on to Acads

P1 So you did your B.tech in electrical engineering?
Ans We use lightning rod

P1 How does lightning rod protect from lighting ?
ans Charge dissipates to the ground.
Here I told him an anecdote about how lightning fall
on one roof of our hostel during rain when there were 10-12 students on
other roof of our hostel. Told about how computers far away malfunctioned.

P1 Asked what will happen when lightning falls on the airplane?
Ans I become confused at first then told lightning cannot fall on
aeroplane because there is nowhere for charge to go.

P1 Suppose lightning falls on aeroplane, what will happen?
Ans Aeroplane will get destroyed people will die.

P1 He started laughing :tounge
You cannot let people die. How will you save them?
Ans I remembered long forgotten gauss law. And told that if plane be covered by a
thin metal sheet. People will not get electrocuted. But plane equipments will fail and people will die.
