Recently Google has announced launch of its own operating system. It is going to be open source, lightweight operating system designed for an era where computing tasks are increasingly being done online. It will
consist of lightweight linux kernel optimised for internet usage. Google claims Operating systems were designed in an era when there was no web. While Google chrome is going to be designed for online applications. There will be minimal user interface . The whole objective of the operating system will be to boot up fast and connect you to net ,keeping the viruses and malware out of the system.
The most distinguishing feature of Chrome is going to be " It is going to revolutionize the way we use our PC and Web". There should be doubt in anyone's mind that it will be fundamentally different than even concept of operating system.
Google has grown so tremendously in recent years that it has changed the web is being done. It has a big very large cluster of computers. As per recent estimates, it has cluster of around 450,000 computers. It is easily world's most powerful computer in terms of processing power. Google has now grown such a extent that it can give slice of computational power and storage to the whole world.
With Google Chrome your every data
would be stored remotely in remote computer. All your computer applications will be run on giant cluster of computers. Effectively providing consistent level of performance across any computer.
So its basically its not a competitor or threat to Microsoft. Rather it is completely different thing targeted at market audience which is still not present in very large numbers but as internet grows, this can become the most important thing.
