PPT by Cognizant
We had our first campus Pre-placement talk by cognizant. The person giving the talk,
Mr Uma shankar was an IIM A passout having 10 years of industry experience. He had worked in ICICI direct for 4 and half years before joining Cognizant's consulting group. He share several anecdotes and wisdoms with us.
We all think after coming to IIM we won't have to worry for the job. But after coming at IIM we join the great rush for slot 0 jobs. That guy had studied at IIM Ahmedabad but he said that 1st job is only 2-2.5% of your career. Its how do you build your career that is more important. As for the selection of jobs he said we should take up jobs that provide for more challenges and diversity. He said if your jobs involves starting something new it gives you a great exposure. He also said that we should be open to learning facets of all streams of management. Only when you work in a particular field for 4-5 years you become an expert in that field. And if you look at profile of people who have succeeded in their careers you will find that they dare to change their field mid way through their careers. They were more open to jobs that were not well defined. In the sense you end up doing bit of every thing in your job. In that situation knowledge of every domain of MBA helps. So we should be open to experience and in our choices
