Study -IIT vs IIM

I have been wondering recently on the difference between education of IIT and IIM. I have been lucky enough to attend both the institutes. Following are the differences that i perceive :

1)I will start with obvious differences going towards the most subjective ones. First IIT B.tech course is of 4 years and if you are doing dual degree course it is of 5 years on the other hand IIM course is of 2 years. So, in IIT you get much more opportunities to take initiatives to take initiatives for personal and professional growth.
2)IIM curriculum is much more hectic compared to IIT. Chances of getting thrown out of the programme is also much more higher. People are admitted into IIM after group discussion and interviews, so people in IIM are much more and serious about what they want to do in the life. So if even you mess around a little bit you will fail in the course. There is also rule in every IIM that if you fail more than 3 courses in a year you have to repeat the whole year with the juniors.
3)Courses in the IIM are also very different than IIT. In IIT you have 2 semesters of 4-5 months each year. While in IIM you have 3 trimesters of 2-3 months each every year. This means length of courses in these institutes is different. Though both the institutes follow a credit system in academic curriculum. In IIT for example a B.tech electrical engineering graduate has to earn 160-164 credits in 4 years. Whereas in IIM you have to earn around 140 credits in 2 years. But for 4 credits in IIT you have to attend 50 -55 lectures give 2 quizzes and give one end term. While for 4 credits in IIM you have to attend 20 lectures give 3-4 surprise quizzes, one mid term and one end term. Besides that in IIM there is system of PGP groups where groups of 5-6 people are formed for one trimester or year. In every course around 25-40 % weightage of grade of course is in the form of group assignments and group projects.
