What could have been biggest upset in tennis

Today Federer played his first round game against Alessandro Fella. In the run up to this game there has been lot of talk of Federer finishing his game within 2 hours so he could his watch his national team playing in World Cup. Every critic or commentator of  game were writing Falla off. But why they should not have done so, Federer has reached 7 consecutive wimbeldon finals and winning 6 of them, While Falla is what only world nor 60 in tennis. Federer has also defeated Falla last week giving him only 3 games in the process. But what happened. Falla took 2 set lead. And held triple break point at 4-4 in the 3rd set. But Federer saved them all and promptly broke Falla to take the 3rd set. Still when everybody though Falla will falter. Falla opened 4th set with another break of Federer serve. This time Fall served for the match at 5-4 but was denied by Federer. But Falla fought up in the next Federer service game. He earned a break point but his attempted winner landed tantalizin...

4th Term

Our 1st term of 2nd year has begun. One of courses that i opted was dropped for lack of students. So i have comparatively less load in this term. I have mostly opted for only finance courses. 14 of my 20 credits are finance courses. All people say finance is more difficult than marketing. But i do not like mugging for exams so i think marketing is easier. One of the most important changes in this year is that you have form groups by yourself. So after onset of every course there is frenzied activity for formation of groups. The other important change is that now many courses is taken by visiting faculties. These people hold lot of industry experience and are much better than professors at our campus.

Fountainhead - Part II

Another idea that i very much liked in the novel was the idea of creator vs second hander. Our whole society and educational system is geared to convert people into second hander. A second hander is a person who does things not for himself but for others. Every where he does what people do instead of doing what must be done. While a creator is one has absolute belief in himself. He does things what he wants to do not what is expected of him.

Life suck

I have become habituated to a boring life.  My suckiness in life                                    Suckiness meter <= 10th Standard -> 4 10-12                     -> 3 IIT 1st year            ->7 IIT 2nd year          -> 2 IIT 3rd year           -> 1 IIT 4th year           -> 9 gap                         -> 8 IIM 1st year       ...

3 rules

I have realized that if we follow 3 rules we can make our life much better 1 ) Separating facts from opinions and desires 2)  Separating things which are in present and are in under our control from  things  of past and future 3) Finding cause and effect

FOUNTAINHEAD - PART 1

I have recently read novel fountainhead written by Ayn Rand. Its an amazingly novel. The ideas expressed in the novel are amazing. I will write few more posts on ideas expressed in the novels. I thought there were lot of amazing ideas in the novel. In this post i wanted to write on one of the ideas. Some of us spent a lifetime judging other people. Thinking whether they are good or bad. But people are not inherently good or bad. It is the principles they follow that is we like or unlike. And we end up making friends not whose principles we like but those who seem to augment our principle not because we like their principles. Its weird i know, but intriguing

4 years of IIT Madras + 1 year of gap + 1 year of IIM Indore ==

I must be one of the oddest person to have gotten through both IIT and IIM. When i got selected into IIT, it was like a culture change for me. I have never lived away from parents. I was very introverted at that time. Then i got into Madaras it was like a culture change for me. In retrospect i don't think i adjusted well there. Then i was just fortunate to pass in time of recession so i have to sit for one year at home.  Then i joined IIM Indore. In the last one year my perspectives on things have changed enormously. I don't know what i have learnt in MBA. But surely i have learnt to think in logical and coherent manner in IIM Indore

CFA level 1

I gave CFA level 1 exam before coming for this term. CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst. This exam is organized by CFA institute. This exam consists of 3 levels. If you pass all the 3 levels and have professional investing experience of more than 4 years you become a CFA charterholder. I think holding the CFA designation carries a lot of value. For example i was browsing through profile of google vice president of sales Nikesh Arora who is from IT Bhu. In 4 lines of description he mentioned the CFA designation at the very first line. But i was very appalled with the level of questions of exam. The questions were very easy, except the section of ethics. Ethics carries a weightage of 15% in the exam. It was the only section which was hard. Other 85% fin was extremely easy. Most of the questions from those 85% were repeated from Shawaser. So if you want to crack the exam you can mug the questions from Shawaser in last 3 days and that will be sufficient. But for the 15% of the e...

PURA conference

Today a conference was held on PURA. Former President APJ Abdul Kalam came at our campus for the conference. PURA is the initiative to bring private players for development of the rural areas. Earlier in the area as part of PURA programme all the students of IIM Indore went to different villages of Madhya Pradesh. They had come up with the recommendations for the plan of action for the development of the villages. In the conference selected groups of students of IIM Indore presented their findings. They came up with several innovative ideas for the development of the villages.

Summer Internship

I could not write any blog post for the last 3 months because i was busy with my summer internship. I did my summer internship in Gati ltd. at Hyderabad. I was a bit disappointed when i got summer internship in Gati. I wanted a finance profile, but ended up with an operations company. Anyways it was a bit okay because operations was my 2nd preference. And supply chain of Gati is among the best in the country. But the more correct reason for my disappointment was that Gati is not among the best paymasters in the country. Anyways the internship experience was quite good. But the good experience had more to do with hyderabaadi biriyani rather than work. I was assigned with a team working on a very crucial project for Gati. Though the project was quite good but it required lot of experience in the industry to make a meaningful contribution. Anyways i was able to bring on table some new ideas. But overall i was not satisfied with my work. But still there was lot of things to learn in t...
