Politician why do they behave the way they do

We all hate our politicians. And why should we not detest them. They do never work for interest of the people. Once they get power all they care about hoarding money. They lack political will to take decisions in the best interest of the nation. They come and go and they never change again. They incite hatred on ethnic and communal lines. But why they should be any different. Politicians are the mirror of the nation. Why should we expect our leader to be anymore than we are. How many of us can claim to be acting to be better good of society. How many of us are not selfish. How many of us are not corrupt. How many of us don't differentiate along ethnic and communal lines. Sadly we Indians fall short on all of the above qualities. Indian culture of patriachal upringing enforces a very negative view of society in minds of children. How many of us were not taught not this thing. Even if u r not taught this thing. I am grateful to my father for not teaching any such thing. My mother tried desperately teach me such. But i never believed in such things. Though i am not claiming to be so pure. As i live in same society as others. Then coming to second quality, selfishness. Selfishness is actually birthright of humans. As Adam Smith proved in his book “ Wealth of Nations” that individual selfishness leads to collective good. Now coming to the quality of selfishness and discrimination. Sadly i have seen best brains in IIT and IIM spewing racial hatred against muslims , people of particular regions etc. And honesty is never to be found.
