Mahatma Gandhi - the leader of the nation

I have read the auto biography of mahatma gandhi. I have found his autobiography to be very inspiring and candid. But recently i have been reading Indian history. And i cannot help but wonder how much the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi has been to Indian independence struggle. Following are some of the facts that strike me :

1) In the recent Kashmir violence, 100's of civilians were killed in their so called non violent protests. Though there can be debate on the point that whether the protests were non violent but one thing for sure, no person from police or army died in these protests
2) Barring Chauri- Chaura kand and jallianwala bagh incidents, Indian independence struggle was so peaceful that it was amusing.
3) All the major non violent movements were launched against the british when the government was the weakest. For example Quit India movement in 1942 during world war II or non co-operation movement in 1919 just after world war I.

4) What happens when a movement turns violence. Insanity is very easily spreadable. There is no way England would have been able to control a violent movement by India in 1919 or in 1942.

5) India was only granted independence, our leaders were in no way responsible for getting independence.

6) Gandhiji was educated by British. He was very influenced by british policies. If you read his autobiography you will find that he was guided by principle of greater good or say religious principles. He was not a visionary like bose who dreamed of independence

7) And the most important point, why was the congress established. It was established by the British so that Indians can think they have a channel to voice their concerns.

At the end of it i believe that Gandhiji greatest achievement was not getting independence of india but uniting the whole of india. If gandhi ji was not present in india. Then India might have got independence as early as 1919. But that won't have been the india that we live in.
