IIT Jodhpur Rocks

IIT Jodhpur had been given the responsibility of procurement of Aakash tablet for sale by government at subsidized price to students. Agreements had been signed with Datawind, the manufacturer of the tablet. All the marketing of the product has been done. But now IIT Jodhpur has come up with additional product testing criteria for the tablet. They want tablet to be water proof to the extent where it can withstand rain at no less than 4 inches per hour. None of the commercial computers can survive a water spill, let alone a rain. How can government expect a 35 dollar tablet to withstand rainfall at the rate of 4 inches per hour. And addition of this condition after signing of contract agreements simply reeks of corruption. It is reflective of our corrupt and inefficient system. Our bureaucrats can create obstacles in the name of public interest where none was possible. I wonder what does government want to sell to students, a computer tablet or an umbrella.
