Happiness

Happiness is state of doing things which we want to do when we are happy. If you want to dance or travel when you are happy, then dance or travel now.  You won't get greater happiness waiting for it.

As given in book flow : the psychology of happiness

" Happiness is not something that happens. It is not the result of good fortune or random chance. It is not something that money can buy or power command. It does not depend on outside events, but, rather, on how we interpret them. Happiness, in fact, is a condition that must be prepared for, cultivated, and defended privately by each person. People who learn to control inner experience will be able to determine the quality of their lives, which is as close as any of us can come to being happy."

Happiness is not doing things  for sake of chasing happiness.

More and more  food, alcohol or social media can only give you empty short term happiness.

You have to be honest with yourself. Doing what gives you genuine happiness to you.

It cannot be something which is changing every fleeting moment.

Happiness is always a transient emotion. Even the greatest success will make you happy only  for a short amount of time.

So the things which can give happiness must have outcome in things which are long lasting and evident.

So our work and relationships give us more happiness than anything else.

Happiness was studied by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, the author of book flow : the psychology of happiness. He said we derive most happiness when we develop flow in  our work. We often see work as drudgery but people who develop flow in their work, excel in their task without much effort.

Flow is a mental state of focused attention so intense that it does not allow us to have cognitive bandwidth left for anything else. It is a state of such profound task-absorption and intense concentration that makes a person feel one with the activity.

Despite all of our best efforts, bad things will still happen with all of us. For happiness we have to accept state of our life and accept things which we have no control over and focus on positive aspects of our lives.
