In every situation where we become angry if instead we maintained our calm then we could have handled the situation much better.  Negative emotions are shortcuts that evolution has created in our brain to protect against  awful stupidity. They are our shortcut to correct thinking process.  So when you feel some negative emotions like anger/ sadness/ anxiety, these are triggers in our brain to to take a quick boiler plate decision.
