Secularism
If one compares religious hate crimes across various countries where such a large population of Muslims exists with a different religion or where Islam is the dominant religion, then one will find that religious crime are much lower in India than in other countries.
It is to no small measure due to our constitution which guarantees equal rights to every religion and forbids discrimination based on religion.
In a country with so many different communities, secularism is not a cherished ideal but a necessity to maintain social harmony.
The problem is there are so many social and economic differences between Hindus and Muslims, that path for secularism is difficult for any party.
Economic development after the 1990s led to a decrease in hatred between Hindus and Muslims.
However social media is leading to increasing divisions between the two religions. Facebook and Google tailor their newsfeeds and search results according to individual opinions.
If you are a congress supporter you will see more results on how BJP is ruining the country. And if you are a BJP supporter, you will keep seeing results of how stupid Rahul Gandhi is. Not that he is not.
Left on its own. People start living in different realities. Even truth becomes a victim. The effect of social media can be seen in USA. So many people in USA supported the coup after the elections.
Like the USA, divisions between Hindus and Muslims will only keep growing wider due to effect of social media.
So parties supporting secularism should proactively take measures to reduce religious tension. And not just come out of their cave when their is tension.
In a democratic system, people of every group should have representation in government. If social media is not regulated or measures for reducing tension are not taken, growing divisions would threaten democracy in our country.
