Are there aliens ?

Our milkyway galaxy contains 100 billion stars. And our galaxy is one of 100 billion galaxies in the universe. And many of these stars have been in existence for billions of years. So if we were alone in the universe then the formation of life had to be a nearly impossible.

But so far scientists have found that unicellular life originated in the earth very early in its formation. The basic building blocks of life are RNA  and DNA molecules.  They are formed from combinations of amino acids. Samples of asteroid Ryugu returned to Earth by Japan’s Hayabusa2 mission, were found to contain more than 20 different amino acids. They have also been found in meteorite impacts on earth.

found that RNA molecules can form easily in volcanic rocks in conditions. And given the tenacity of life in the harshest places of the earth, the universe must be teeming with life. 



But despite humanity's efforts, we have yet to find any alien life form. It could be for any of the reasons

1) There is a limit to technological progress. Scientists write science fiction where impossible things happen. But there has been a lack of a major breakthrough in physics in the past 40 years.

Science fiction books and movie show super intelligent ai, unlimited energy from nuclear fusion and faster-than-light space travel. But all these things may not be even possible. In that case, every civilisation is doomed to end in destruction in a limited period, after exhausting its resources. Then the number of civilizations at any period of time would be much smaller and they would not reach the technological level to either reach or contact each other. 

2) There is another theory known as dark forest theory

It posits that every alien civilisation consider other civilisations to be a threat. And those who reveal their location are extinguished by stronger civilisations. So no alien civilisation broadcasts its location in the universe. In fact Stephen Hawkins had warned about contacting other civilisations. He said that instead of trying to find and communicate with life in the cosmos, humans would be better off doing everything they can to avoid contact

3) There is another possibility that we are so stupid and inconsequential for them to care about us. They don't care about us like we do not care about bacteria and viruses.

4) Finally the last possibility is that we are just a simulation of a higher order civilisation. Elon Musk frequently post about it on twitter.

The idea is that we may be a simulation of a higher-order civilization. In that case, we will be really alone.
