Why more Indians having heart attacks

 


I woke up today to the news that Sushmita Sen, one of the fittest Bollywood actresses, suffered a heart attack. Social media is filled with videos of people dropping dead. 

Some of it is due to ubiquitous nature of smartphone cameras. We are recording more moments of our time. People had always been dying at an untimely age. Due to smartphone cameras, more such incidents are being recorded. 

But it is possible that some of such incidents are side effects of covid. USA government has studied the impact of covid on the health of people. They found that covid leads to an increased incidence of heart problems and strokes. More severe covid led to higher risk during the next year. But there was an increased risk even for non-hospitalized patients.

This study was done before everyone received multiple doses of vaccine. Covid has become a mild disease due to Vaccine and natural immunity. So we can hope that impact of covid now is not as much given in the study.
