Intel

Intel has recently announced its quarterly results. To the horrors of share market its profit fell by 90% to 234 million dollars. If a company who owns such a big monopoly on such an evergreen product a.k.a computers cannot hold to its profits in this recession, who will.

Identity

World is a big place with a lot of people having lot of faces. Each individual has his unique identity. We can recognise him by lot of things 1) Voice recognition: Every individual's voice is different from others. Software are already being written with an aim to make voice recognition possible. But still technology miles away from perfect. 2) fingerprinting: It is done by comparing questioned and known friction skin ridge impressions from fingers to palms to determine if the impressions are from the same palm and fingers. But no 2 fingerprints are the same. Even 2 fingerprints of same person taken simultaneously are not the same. So fingerprint recognition is an inexact science. The probability of error is in order of > 10^-4 . This includes human error also. Some people may question if no 2 fingerprints are the same then why there is probability of error. Artificial intelligence

We all have grown up watching movies like terminator , matrix etc. These pictures exemplify possible clash between us and intelligent robots in recent future. But have we ever wondered what constitutes intelligence . How close are we to achieving artificial intelligence. Or is it even possible. Lets first ponder over what is intelligence. Intelligence is an umbrella term used to describe a property of the mind that encompasses many related abilities, such as the capacities to reason, to plan, to solve problems, to think abstractly, to comprehend ideas, to use language, and to learn. There are several ways to define intelligence. In some cases, intelligence may include traits such as creativity, personality, character,knowledge, or wisdom. However, most psychologists prefer not to include these traits in the definition of intelligence. GNU software radio

GNU software radio is a free software toolkit currently under development under GNU. Its aim is to bring the ability to use a part of electromagnetic spectrum, from hardware to software. On a broader level its aim is to make all wireless devices redundant by bringing the functionality of all devices to home computer. Imagine a single device that can tune to radio mirchi 98.3 fm, communicate with other mobile phone users, control other appliances using wireless and lot more.
